Innovations in Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing
The centerpiece of our green initiative is our solar energy installation. PSCO Sign Group is the first sign manufacturer in New Jersey and the country to power our manufacturing facilities and fabricate signs using renewable solar energy. Our initiatives are a natural complement to your own sustainable practices and green building efforts.

Renewable Power
In 2010, PSCO Sign Group was the first sign company on the east coast to convert our Pennsauken production facility to solar power. Every sign we make is fabricated using renewable solar energy. Multi-site corporations can respond to customer concerns, and save money by using newer, greener technologies throughout locations manufactured by PSCO Sign Group.

Solar Advantages:

  • The 910 kilowatt solar installation is capable of generating 1.1 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, enough energy to power 900 homes.
  • Each year the solar panels will offset enough carbon pollution equivalent to 4,700 acres of trees.
  • The solar panels’ energy generation offsets enough carbon pollution to equal the removal of 6,400 cars, and their emissions, from the road.
  • An electricity meter records the amount of power being fed back into the grid, and credits PSCO Sign Group for kilowatt-hours (kwh) which are applied to our account, saving the company money while reducing our energy footprint.

Post Manufacturing Waste and Recycling Practices:
Over the past 15 years, PSCO Sign Group has been improving upon our environmental practices, waste storage capabilities and recycling. Shipping materials are re-purposed whenever possible minimizing our impact on the reliance of harvesting trees for virgin materials. We have implemented a thorough recycling program sorting scrap aluminum, plastics, wood, painted and unpainted materials to the appropriate recycling stations.

Below is a breakdown of the various materials and our recycling process:

  • Cardboard is recycled through a Container and Recycling Service
  • Clean aluminum is sent to a facility to be melted down and recycled.
  • Other metals such as steel, iron, galvanized, old signs, and parts not used anymore are sent to a recycling center
  • Plexiglass is sent out to be chipped down into pellets and recycled.
  • Raw material scraps are recycled by various companies to ensure ‘green disposal’.
  • Wood is removed by recycling and container services, and ultimately, it is turned into mulch
  • Paint & Lamps such as fluorescent lamps and neon which may have mercury and paint by-products are disposed of through specific company and the cardboard boxes that the lamps are shipped in eventually get recycled as well.
  • Ballasts are disposed separately because they have copper and tar. Ballasts are taken to the scrap yard for melting and proper disposal.
  • Trash is sent to an Incinerator where they sift through all waste to continue the breakdown of recycling of product.
